I guess from the very begining we had ver 5.01 along with 5.03 and later someone changed disk timings and released 5.04T (kinda TURBO version with read/write operations aprox. 3 times faster than original 5.03).

Anyway the main article about TRDOS in exUSSR the book of Nicolas Rodionov "ZX spectrum for users and programmers" was released around 1991. Before this book out many believed there is no way to program FDC controller directly and used only well defined TRDOS interface calls which is the same for TRDOS 5.01 and 5.03/5.04T; but in the book Rodionov described method how to perform ordinary in/out operation to FDC on both 5.01 and 5.03 calling some parts of routines in TRDOS roms. Essentially that was good initiative to show programmers way of read/write protected disks and make special read/write procedures like those playing AY music during loading, but initial intention wasn't completely reached because many programmers go further and start use this way to call specific procedures for 5.04T that was not available in 5.01 or located on other address. So, in later period many programs appeared that worked with 5.03/5.04T only but not with 5.01, that lead to almost complete replacement of 5.01 ROMs with 5.04T (around 1992 and later).
