This interface add ZX 128 compatibility for SAM COUPE. In ZX128/512 mode is possible use all SAM's fetures and graphic modes. SAM will work as:
ZX 1024kB ram + 512kB rom
graphic modes: ZX, multicolor, hi-res color,256x192/16 colours per pixel (palette 128 colours)
programmable interrupt
SAA1099 soundchip, AY support
turbo CPU mode
MB02 memory paging
RTC 72421 compatible with MB02 and SAMBUS
videoram can be set in any memory page of 512kB
I/O adress space can be used as ramdisc

Hi there, thanks for your post/site, but this sounds as "here comes new upgrade for your beloved APPLE-1". Well, at least to me. Note almost nobody here have seen Sam in real life. So, this post would attract much more attention if there was chance to create PLD based clone of Sam's ASIC (VLSI.... something...) and ultimately Sam clone.

TURBO interface only modify adress bus A14,A15 and A0 and can disable I/O or MREQ operations. SAM COUPE is super ZX Spectrum 48 with extra features only:v2_thumb:. For ZX128 compatibility is need add memory upgrade only(different paging). All other features and graphic modes is supported in original SAM COUPE too.

This is good news! I wished to have sam too long =). If and when you'll clone sam I'll have one for sure!
This is great machine (haven't touch a real machine, but emulated only) as for me.

Glad to hear that, but do you know anything about this Sam ASIC internals? Have you contacted copyright holder with offer to open source technical docs about Sam H/W? As soon as you'll get enough technical details just post them here on this forum and I'm sure after short time we'll see first Sam version for Altera DE1 dev board... :)

Yes, I have more informanions about ASIC function and timing. ASIC chip is very similar as ZX ULA, use only different XTAL, border size and support hi-res mode (12 MHz pixels). ZX screen mode, hw multicolor,hi-res and color pixel mode 4 is very easy to implement. All other features is only memory paging, color palette, programmable interrupt. Keyboard membrane use same matrix as zx spectrum 48, only numeric keyboard and function keys is add to next port. CPU is slow-down via WAIT only. My clone will contain one CPLD XC95288XL(ula/asic) + sram memory(colour palette) + next small cpld for I/O operations,memory controll etc..
I use ABEL only for programming CPLD.

Yes, but yet I must finish actual projects (K-MOUSE,TRDOS emulation and SAM TURBO interface). Primarily is need make PCB for first SAM COUPE prototype. After it I can start ASIC implementation in CPLD. (Original ASIC in SAM COUPE contain 10.000 gates).
