Next can be switched between 50Hz (Pal) and 60Hz (NTSC) within its setup. It outputs both frequencies to RGB. Both work on VGA and HDMI too.
Т.е. если у меня телек 100+ гц есть надежда на 100% совпадание герцовки спектрума и телека в pal режиме. Куда будут девать 10 кадров сверху для ntsc да так, чтобы синхра была идеальной - хз.
А что через vga подключить, чтобы было чОтко 50 гц??

The RPi in the Next behaves as a 'co-processor' to the Z80 of sorts, basically waiting to be told what to do. FOr instance, in the past, we used the RPi to monitor the video memory of the Next and capture its contents to output it via the RPi HDMI port. This is no longer necessary since we added an HDMI to the Next main board, but illustrates how much can be done.
Our plans are for the RPi to allow USB connections to be used; accelerate math functions; process graphical libraries (for instance, 3D processing); use its memory as storage for the Next and so on.
The drivers for these functions are being written, and will be open source enabling the community to expand their purposes.

Why can't you make the Next run at 14MHz? or 28MHz? or 50MHz?
The Spartan SLX16 FPGA in the Next runs at 50MHz. So yes, we can make the Next's processor (the Z80) run much faster than the current 3.5 and 7MHz modes with ease.
The problem is that the other components that make a Spectrum (the ULA, for instance, that is responsible for its graphics and other functions) were never designed to run faster than 3.5MHz. In order to make the Z80 processor run faster, a lot of care and some new approaches are required to keep it all working in harmony, in the correct timming, without breaking compatibility and functionality.
It's certainly possible to drive the Next at 14MHz by introducing wait states and keep it compatible with the ULA, memory etc. We're actually looking into this, but are not promising
