Hi sq/skrju,
Thanks for the question.
Truthfully, my knowledge of Russian is only very basic, but just about enough to communicate!
Two years ago, I learnt the Cyrillic alphabet from the internet (wikipedia I think). I memorised it and then learnt to type it slowly on a UK keyboard.
I have only remembered about 100 basic Russian words or so, and I still have much more to learn about grammar.
For all other words I use the PROMPT online translator and a Russian-English dictionary program. It is better than babelfish. This is why I sometimes use the wrong word, but I still try to remember more Russian words without using the translator.
I became interested in Russian ZX Spectrum games e.g. "Dizzy XII Underground". Now I can play them, which is really enjoyable for me!
Last year, I also needed to grab some screenshots of Russian software to help the Administrator of the "World of Spectrum" archive. For example, the program "GRAF 3". To do this, I needed to translate Russian documentation into English.
I have not yet visited Russia. The furthest East I have ever travelled is Modra, Slovakia.
Your English is very Good!
Regards, DP
